Information message about sensitive earthquake registered on July 4, 2007 in the region of Baikal Lake

     The sensitive earthquake with M=5.2 has occurred on July 4, 2007 at 01:23 GMT (05:23 Moscow time) in the region of Baikal Lake.
     Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 1 ÷ 20 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).
     Preliminary processing has been done with data from 35 stations, accurate processing - with data 53 stations.
     Fig. 1 presents fragments of three component records obtained from digital station Talaya (∆ 5.6º). Fig. 2 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Yakutsk (∆ 11.9º), Tiksi (∆ 17.9º), Kurchatov (∆ 19.5º), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (∆ 21.9º), Borovoe (∆ 23.2º), Bilibino (∆ 28.1º).

  • Epicenter
         Epicenter of this earthquake was located in North Baikal region of Buriat Autonomous Area in 60 km to the east from Sevebaikalsk town and 450 km to the north-west from Chita city.
    Aftershock
         Within the next day after the main shock GS RAS has registered 9 aftershocks with Ðœ>=3.8. More detailed information about aftershocks may be found at the link located at the sight of Baikal division of Geophysical Survey of Siberian Branch of RAS

         This earthquake has been felt in the towns Severobaikalsk with intensity 4-5 MSK, Nizhneangarsk 3-4 MSK, Ulyunkhan, Uoyan, Ust-Barguzin 3 MSK, Kichera, Verhnaya Zaimka 2-3 MSK.
