Information message about sensitive earthquake in Krasnadar region on November 15, 2004.

The sensitive earthquake has happened on November 15, 2004 in Krasnodar Region between the cities Maikop and Sochi. It has been registered at 10:21 GMT (13:21 Moscow time) with magnitude 4.6.
Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 30 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).
Preliminary processing has been done with data from 14 stations, accurate processing - with data 23 stations.
Figure 1 presents fragments of records from nearest digital stations: Sochi (delta 70 km), Krasnodar(delta 100 km), Anapa (delta 180 km), Kislovodsk (delta 240 km).

IPC GS RAS also has obtained information with parameters of this event from some seismological centers, these data are given in table 1:
Note: regional data solution (distances from 68 to 645 km) was obtained with use of the Earth's crust model of Western part of Big Caucasus (Dr. Murusidze, 1976) and location program НУРО71.

This earthquake has been felt on a vast territory of Krasnodar region: Sochi, Belorechensk, Maikop with intensity - 3-4 MSK, Krasnodar - 2-3 MSK; as well as in Stavropol - with intensity 2-3 MSK. There is no information about victims and destructions. Location of hypocenter is shown on the map, which was downloaded from the site of Mediterranean Center (http://www.emsc-csem.org/) (fig.2).

    Historical records
The zone of this earthquake is known as the area of another 7-MSK earthquake, which happened on March 6,1963 with small magnitude М=3.3 but close to the surface origin with depth 1-2 km. (data from «New catalogue of strong earthquakes on the territory of USSR » and from «Specialized catalogue of the earthquakes » (publ. Kondorskaya N.V., Ulomov V.I.). The strong earthquakes for this area have happened here in 1994 - on February1 at 01h 16m, КР=11.6 and on February 15 at 22h 29 m, КP=12.0 , the first one was in the region of Maikop city (50 km from epicenter of the reported here earthquake), another one near the town Apsheronsk (less than 10 km from epicenter of the reported here earthquake). Origin of these earthquakes probably is the result of rupture activity of anti Caucasus spread direction. The earthquake on February 1, 1994 has been felt in Maikop city with intensity 4 MSK, in Sochi  3 MSK. The earthquake on February 15, 1994 has been felt on a vast territory including Black Sea shore of Caucasus. Maximum intensity of 3-4 MSK has been registered in settlement Dahovskaya, in Apsheronsk, Tuapse and Lazarevskaya 3 MSK, in Sochi  2-3 MSK, in Maikop  2 MSK. The main strike on February 15, 1994 has been accompanied with weak aftershocks. Local network of КМВ test area has registered 9 aftershocks with КР=7-8. Locations of epicenters of these events are shown on map (fig.3) with background seismicity in 1994and ruptures of the Earth’s crust in accordance with Dr. Rogozhin. FIg. 3. Map with epicenters of North Caucasus earthquakes in 1994. Marks: 1,2,3- ruptures of secondary order, supposed and of the first order respectively. Brief marks of first order ruptures: АНП - Anapa, С-А-North-Adjarian, СВ – Seversky Ч – Black Sea, К-Л – Kahetino-Lechhumsky, П-Т – Pshekish-Tiarnuazsky, А-Е- Armaviro-Essentuky, А-К – Adaikop-Kazbek, Г-О – Gamri-Ozensky, П-А – Palmiro-Apsheronsky, Ц-К – Central-Caspian, Ю-Ч – South Black Sea. 4 – epicenters of the earthquakes with КР=12,11,10 and 9 respectively. Red star shows epicenter of the earthquake on November 15, 2004.
