Information message about sensitive earthquake in Black Sea, December 25, 2012 |
The sensitive earthquake with M=5.4 has occurred on December 25, 2012 at 22:44 GMT (December 26, 2012, 02:44, Moscow time) in the Black Sea, offshore Georgia. This is the strongest aftershock of the earthquake which occurred on December 23,2012 with М=5.6.

Parameters of the earthquake
have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information
Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data
obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS
and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 15 min after
registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM). |
Preliminary processing has been done with data from 38 stations, accurate processing - with data 51 stations. |
Fig. 1 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Neitrino (∆ 1.5º), Lazarevskoe (∆ 1.8º), Kislovodsk (∆ 1.9º), Tuapse (∆ 2º), Nalchik (∆ 2.2º). Fig. 2 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Garni (∆ 3.8º), Isparta (∆ 9.2º), Kiev (∆ 11.4º), Obninsk (∆ 12.9º), Borovoe (∆ 22.2º). |

Fig. 3 presents with red star epicenter of this earthquake which origin was located in the Black Sea, offshore Georgia, at the depth of 15 km, 50 km S-S-W of Sukhumi, 120 km N-W of Batumi and 150 km S-E of Sochi. |

Aftershock |
GS RAS registered another 3 aftershocks with M≥3.5 within 4 hours after this earthquake. In the period between December 23 and December 25, 2012 IPC GS RAS registered nearly 70 aftershocks with ML>2.2. According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, Earthquake Department number of aftershocks of the same order.

Macroseismic manifestations |
In accordance with GS RAS this earthquake was felt: in Sochi with intensity 5 MSK, in Cherkessk, Karachaevsk with intensity 3 MSK. In accordance with NEIC USA and CSEM this earthquake was felt in Abkhazia and Georgia: in Poti with intensities 5-6, in Gagra, Batumi with intensity 5. |
