Information message about destructive earthquake in Yunnan Province of China on September 07, 2012 |
The earthquake with M=5.8 which caused victims and destructions has occurred on September 07, 2012 at 03:19 GMT (07:19 Moscow Time) in Yunnan Province of China. |
Parameters of the earthquake
have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information
Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data
obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS
and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 18 min after
registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM). |
Preliminary processing has been done with data from 40 stations, accurate processing - with data 43 stations. |
Fig. 1 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Hailar (∆ 25º), Ala-Archa (∆ 28.4º), Kurchatov (∆ 30.2º), Matsushiro (∆ 30.3º). Fig. 2 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Borovoe (∆ 35.8º), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (∆ 36.1º), Tiksi (∆ 46.4º), Kislovodsk (∆ 51.3º).

Fig. 3 presents with red star epicenter of this earthquake which origin was located on the territory of Yunnan Province of China at the depth of 33 km, 284 km W-N-W of Guiyang, 293 km N-N-E of Kunming and 342 km S-W of Chongqing. |

Macroseismic manifestations |
In accordance with RBK more than 80 persons have been killed as a result of this earthquake. More than 700000 of people of PRC were influenced. The number of injured exceeded 700 persons. Yunnan and Guizhou Provinces of China suffered from this natural disaster.
Preliminary investigation made by Chinese Authorities revealed that the shock has destroyed more than 20 thousand of houses. More than 110 power supply lines were damaged and many regions left without communication.

Historical records |
The recent strongest earthquake of South-West China has been registered on May 12, 2008 with М=8. Epicenter of this earthquake was located in Sichuan Province; more than 80,000 people killed. |
