Information message about sensitive earthquake in the region of Baikal Lake on May 20, 2008 |
The sensitive earthquake with M=5.4 has occurred on May 20, 2008 at 20:42 GMT (May 21 at 0:42 Moscow time) in the region of Baikal Lake. |
Parameters of the earthquake
have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information
Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data
obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS
and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 48 min after
registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM). |
Preliminary processing has been done with data from 31 stations, accurate processing - with data 37 stations. |
Fig. 1 presents fragments of three component record obtained from digital station Talaya (∆ 3.4º). Fig. 2 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Yakutsk (∆ 14.2º), Kurchatov (∆ 18.4º), Tiksi (∆ 20.4º), Borovoe (∆ 22.6º), Ala Archa (∆ 24.9º).

Epicenter of this earthquake is shown on fig.3 with yellow round, it was located in the region of Baikal Lake at 40 km to the west-south-west from Ust-Barguzin, at 85 km to the west-south-west from Barguzin, at 150 km to the east-north-east from Elantsi, at 165 km to the north-north-east from Ulan-Ude, at 300 km to the east-north-east from Irkutsk. |
