STRUCTURE (RUS)


   Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences (GS RAS) was established on the basis of expert expedition of the Joint Institute of Physics of the Earth (O. Schmidt) RAS in accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, number 107, dated May 31, 1994, pursuant to the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation # 444 of May 11, 1993.


   In accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences number 77 on 9 March 2004 was reorganized and Geophysical Survey, Russian Academy of Sciences for her to 1 April 2005 were merged and became branches of the following regional expert expedition and parties:

  • Central expert expedition to the North Ossetian branch,
  • Kamchatka Experimental and Methodical Seismological Department,
  • Sakhalin Experimental and Methodical Seismological Department ,
  • Dagestan Experimental and Methodical Seismological Department,
  • Magadan Experimental and Methodical Seismological Department,
  • Kola Regional Seismological Centre.

   Decree of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences number 47 of February 21, 2006 Geophysical Survey RAS established the following main activities:

  • implementation of basic research and applied research into the problems of seismology and geophysics,
  • conduct continuous seismic monitoring of the Russian Federation , and the adjacent territories of the world.

   In addition, comply with the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences:

  • Together with Roshydromet Russian Federation operates a tsunami warning system in the Far East;
  • Together with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation ( RF Government Decree of 25 August 2005 № 537 ) operates the Russian objects ( 9 seismic stations along the line of Sciences ) of the International Monitoring System , which is created for the continuous monitoring of the implementation of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT ).

   Also in the number of problems solved by the Geophysical Survey of RAS , in accordance with the Order of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences are: 

  • monitoring of volcanic activity (for Kamchatka Branch of GS RAS),
  • monitoring the slow geodynamic processes in the Earths crust and ground deformation.
